Career Options in Commerce
After passing class tenth, choice of stream poses a big challenge for the parents and students alike. Most of the students try to opt for Commerce after Science stream.
In most of the cases parents thrust their decision on their children. So, this becomes the worst decision taken by them in good spirits as the interest and aptitude are not considered while making this choice.
At Plus Two level a student has to study the following subjects: English, Economics, Business Studies, Accountancy and one more, (usually Math, Physical Education or Computer Sc.)
Math is the most preferred subject. A student who possesses the qualities of attention, reasoning and analytical abilities and who has interest in playing with numerical figures can do the wonders in this field.
Career Options in Commerce After Plus Two:
B.Com (Honours ): After B.Com , he can go for Chartered Accountancy, MBA, M.Com. Then he can join a KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing at entry level positions or can work as Accounts Assistant or work in the auditing department of various firms.
B.A Economics: After B.A, he can do M.A Eco (H), M.Phil in Economics. Then he can appear for Indian Economic Services, to be recruited as Grade A officer in organizations like the Planning Commission and write reports on economic and business events in newspapers or become Economics teachers.
B.Sc (H) Maths: After B.Sc.(H) Maths there are opportunities available in many financial services companies, data processing, testing and research centers of multinational companies.
B.SC (H) Stats: After graduation, one can pursue courses like actuarial sciences or can become a business analyst, research officer, data analyst, investigator or a lecturer.
BAF: BAF stands for Bachelors in Accounting and Finance. The course mainly focuses on tax, cost accounting, auditing, business law, economics, etc.One can pursue higher education in finance and accounting, M. Com or even an MBA in finance.
BFM: BFM or Bachelors of Financial Markets focuses on debt markets, equity markets, risk management, microeconomics, investment, mutual funds and security markets. After this one can pursue courses like CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst).
BBI: Bachelors in Banking and Insurance course that focuses on topics like financial accounting and management, banking laws, business laws, corporate laws, auditing, and cost. Then one can go for M.com, MBA or CFA.
So, at college level a student has to study the following main subjects: Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Cost Accounting, Statistics, Income Tax, English/ Hindi, Economics, Business Management and Organization, Math (In Hon course)
One can pursue following professional courses after B.com or on clearing the entrance test after completing the foundation course.
CA: stands for Chartered Accountancy. On doing CA one can work in an auditing firm, in the Income Tax department or be hired as a CA for a private firm.
ICWA: passed candidates can hold top management positions, Viz. Managing Director, Finance Director, Finance Controller, Accountant, Cost Controller, Finance Manager, and Chief Internal Auditor etc. in a public sector or private sector organization.
CS: A company secretary (CS) plays a vital role in taking crucial decisions regarding legal matters, tax, finance, excise laws, corporate laws, labor laws and corporate planning, the most important link connecting the shareholders, regulatory agencies and the board of directors.
Law: For a student having analyzed, advocating and counselling skills, law can be a good choice. BA LLB is a five year integrated program for students who wish to pursue a career in law.
You can go for deciding your future course only after thoroughly going through all the stuff relating to the career options . Go for professional Career Counselling if possible. But the most important considerations are interest and aptitude of the students and financial constraints above all.
